₦4 Billion Disbursed. So Why Is Gamboru-Ngala Road Still This Bad? From Sept 2024 to Dec 2025, over N4bn has been disbursed to the Construction of Gamboru-Ngala Road axis, Borno State. Yet, on the ground, the road remains in a deplorable state. The only visible intervention has been the... dumping of red sand on some sections. An intervention that, according to road users, has further worsened the condition of the road. During the rainy season, or when a vehicle breaks down, the resulting gridlock can leave travellers stranded for days, sometimes weeks, and on occasion, close to a month, exposing travellers to serious safety risks. We call on Federal Ministry of Works, and the Borno State Gov't to provide the public with details of how the funds disbursed for this project was used and to urgently mobilise the contractor to site.show more

Having driven down to Maphisa yesterday to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Zimbabwe’s Independence I remain deeply concerned about the state of the road to Maphisa. Although construction work has been done on virtually the whole length of the road it is nowhere near finished. In fact for much of the length of the road all that has been done is the grading of either side of what used to be narrow tar. The narrow bridges remain the same and the old narrow tar is in very bad condition. In fact most the road was extremely dangerous. I recognize that contractors are still on site and had parked their construction vehicles to facilitate the high volume of traffic yesterday, so remain hopeful that they will remain on the road until it has been completed all the way from Bulawayo to Maphisa. My fear is that now that Independence Day is over that the contractors will move elsewhere leaving most of the road in a worse state than it was before the work started. I have already had one report of construction vehicles being moved to Masvingo and hope that isn’t going to be a trend. I call on Government to confirm that construction will continue along the entire length of the road and to give an indication when it expects the road to be finished.

For years now, we have had to deal with congestion and the indiscriminate use of Douglas Road, Owerri, despite its status as a major economic artery of the State. This unfortunate situation has created an enabling environment for the breeding of different classes of criminal elements, thereby undermining public safety, order, and the smooth flow of commercial activities. The deplorable condition of the road further contributed to these challenges, encouraging abuse and illegal movements, particularly by motorists and street traders. Our decision to embark on the reconstruction of this strategic road is in line with our Urban Renewal Project, which is aimed at salvaging the City of Owerri from the looming threat of economic stagnation and reversing the gradual decline in urban development and growth. Beyond restoring critical infrastructure, this intervention seeks to create a more organized, secure, and economically vibrant city, and during my inspection of the project site, I could literally feel the fresh air of relief breathed by residents and users of the road, expressing their appreciation for the transformative impact of our Urban Renewal Projects. The quality and pace of work observed are consistent with the expectations of the Government, and I am pleased that progress remains on track for completion within the contractual timeline. - Hope Uzodimma

The road construction on Princess Park Street has been progressing quite well and we grateful for the continued support and patience of the community and road users. The final road layer is in progress and it is anticipated that the surfacing be completed by Friday 12 December 2025. The safety of the road users is the core priority and it is for this reason that the Roads and Transport will implement pre-markings and install temporary stop signs for the entire festive season as the road will be open for traffic soon. As the MMC for Roads and Transport I have visited the site on regular basis since the commencement of construction ,to ensure that the set milestones and commitments to the residents of Tshwane are fulfilled.
