Actually it was Dave Brubeck song well ahead of the stranglers.

Never a frown, with

@minijew Has a lovely solo.

🤔 Fun Fact: The band tricked the press by claiming the lyrics were about toast and sunshine, but years later they confessed the "golden brown" was a direct ode to heroin; BBC DJs were terrified to realize they’d been playing a drug anthem during family hours for months. 🥖💉 Did you know? 🤯

Love the 3/4 to 4/4 timing & the mesmerising harpsichord! A definite classic for the ages ⭐

They call it the “best” song about heroin, where it’s not even the best Stranglers’ song on the same subject.

a masterpiece as a song. but lord, what an odd video.

Texture like sun, still today ❤️

Love this song. And love that it’s in one of my favourite movies, Snatch (2000).

One of the best pop songs ever written

Timeless classic; it’s so mesmerising 👌

44 years 😱

YA BABY!!!!!! ✌🏻❤️🇨🇦

Makes you feel a feeling you didn't know exists within you

Wow, this brings back memories. Sagging school in my mates and we'd listen to this. Recorded it from Sundays charts show on the radio.

This takes me back to Feb 1982, and my first visit to the Army Careers Office to join the Army! I’d just turned 15 and wanted to join Junior Para, but I was too early! They said come back at the end of the year when you’re closer to 16 and leaving school! Great memory for that!

Golden Brown carries an unmistakable nostalgia.

Banging tune. Ensured my kids know it, a true classic.

Still on my current playlists. Brilliant song ❤️

Never heard it until the movie Snatch. Glad I did. Great song.

@1980sRewind My god...what a masterpiece

Peaches on the Beaches.

Brilliant song! A punk band wrote a waltz and had a massive hit 👏🤩 🎶

@leevincent66 My late sons favourite show no. Thanks for posting this.

Very nice there then too? Went to number two then of course also indeed?

One of the best songs ever made and reminds me of a girl at the time, Alison bell , obviously an ex and I was 14/15

Realizing I am getting old now, thanks a lot (and it is my favorite song by the Stranglers btw) ❤️

back in the early 80s I was hitchhiking through Europe, landed in some smoky London pub just as "Golden Brown" floated out the jukebox like a velvet wave. That harpsichord riff hit me square in the chest, man, felt like heroin and heroin chic wrapped in baroque sunshine, proper hypnotic. 44 years on and it's still grooving timeless, eh? The Stranglers dropped a cosmic gem that never ages. What's your favourite bit of that tune, the waltz swirl or the dreamy lyrics? ✌️

Certified banger that is

One of my favourite EVER

Stranglers are the reason I'm slightly deaf. Stood 6ft from the speakers at a Lancaster uni concert back in the day

@nualaloves80s Great music 😎🎶🎶🎶

A tune that brings me so much joy and many happy memories.
