45 years ago today Dexy’s Midnight Runners released “Searching For The Young Soul Rebels”; one of the fiercest, raging and passionate records, that still remains as one of the greatest debut albums of all time.

They were due to play Colwyn Bay Pier, late 1979. Then, 'Dance Stance' got to number 40 (I think), and they cancelled it to do Top Of The Pops! It was partly my fault as I bought it. Never did get to see them.

I saw them on the 2Tone tour when they replaced Madness, I was gutted at the time but so pleased I saw that version of them. IMO that album was their peak.

Still moved by all of their albums, and all of KRs work. Cant wait to go see him interviewed by Stewart Lee in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks. *checks the doormat to see if the book has arrived yet* tsk.

Great band, great vibe, great singer - even though nothing of what Kevin Rowland sang with Dexy's was intelligible without a lyric sheet.

I liked the first incarnation of Dexy's so, so, so much more than the second incarnation which recorded *Come on Eileen*, a song I still don't like.

Be careful with that record. For me it was the gateway drug into a life of Northern Soul.

One of my all time favourite albums. Every tracks incredibly strong. Almost fell out of love with Dexys when they released Come on Eileen but stuck with them (Kevin really) and today love seeing the latest incarnation at smaller venues.

Fucking great! I know someone who hated them with a passion. Turns out she rented a flat in the same building as one of them lived and where they used to practice before they got famous. Drove her mad. She'd say "If I hear Come on Eileen one more time!"...
