So, my problem with this play is inconsistency in the rules. An inadvertent whistle from an official stops a play dead. It can take points off the board: you get a pick six, but an official accidentally blows up before the defense scores... no points. Here, a whistle blows, but you can just pick up a football and be awarded points? I don't see how you can reconcile those.

Jerry Rice scores three times, his 11th consecutive game with a touchdown reception — tying an NFL record which he would break the following week. Rice also ties the then NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions (18), set by Miami's Mark Clayton in 1984. Dwight Clark scores the final touchdown of his standout NFL career, Dana McLemore returns a punt 83 yards for a score, and the #FTTB defense forces six Chicago turnovers in the rout.
