Deep Desert has had a lot of really exciting moments this past week. These guys tried taking out our assault thopter packed with spice on the way back to the mainland and tried to raid our outpost. This guy lost a lot in the end. That all being said, I'm concerned about more casual players being able to reach Tier 6 tech and being forced to pvp for it. Some servers are pretty scary. I think instanced but very challenging dungeons with a cache of T6 nodes at the end would be a good solution. They have the framework with the world map for things like this and it could work well. I only mention "instanced" dungeons because I've seen how trivial PVE content became in New World with open world end game chests and resources. People would do world tours and zerg it all down. I love PVP and the Deep Desert has been great, but I'm concerned casuals will gas out getting tech locked and being forced to PVP for a taste of Tier 6 research recipes.

First clip i am showing from yesterday is the first goal. Now, Wednesday were doing ok before the goal. Battling hard, winning second balls and getting up the pitch. The Svante chance, our best one, was on 4 mins. The first goal ended the contest, and whilst Valery is the main culprit for losing the ball, it came from a chance to get the ball forward for us that we lost. When the ball comes out to Fusire on the right, there is great chance for a quick attack as united are 2vs2 in the final third. Svante & Ugbo should both run to the right side and work the channel. But Svante barely moves and Ugbo runs away from the ball. We end up going back, losing it and conceding. SUFC had 10 shots all game. We gave the ball away 6 times out of the 10 shots. They did not have to work for anything after this moment in the game. It is a Sheffield Derby, you have to simply play the occasion and get it forward and build chances. The difference between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in the last so many derbies is that we play it like it is just another game and employ the same tactics, whereas SUFC play it as a derby match.

It’s been five days since we lost the great Glen Hansard, and it’s been both an absolute joy and a source of great sorrow to watch all the videos, all the tributes, and read all the stories about this great man’s life. From presidents and Prime Ministers to global superstars to the people who run the homeless shelters in Dublin that he supported, the tributes have flowed, reminding us of his brilliance and what we’ve lost. But incredibly, even in passing, he is still creating community, as people are coming together to share in their love of a man they never met. I’ve had messages from people all over the world, including as far away as South Korea! While sifting through all the footage, I came across this great video posted by Seattle Theatre Group when Glen closed down Virginia St in Seattle after his show in 2012. I’m standing right in the middle of the crowd behind Glen and end up getting blocked from view by Glen’s drummer, who was enthusiastically playing the tambourine. This is one of the craziest musical experiences I've ever had. Glen had led his band off the stage, through the foyer, and out across the street, into a restaurant, and then back out onto the street to continue to play for his audience. I read somewhere that someone said Glen didn’t have a following, but he had a flock, and I think this so beautifully articulates the passion we all had for everything he brought into the world, which is far more than just his brilliant music. #glenhansard #glenhansardrip #music #seattle

Let me state up front that these two plays were NOT the reason St. John's lost yesterday. And I am a numbers guy so no need to tell me about our shooting stats in the game. But I need to vent. We knew Arkansas over their prior 8 games was making a concerted effort to get to the free throw line - they averaged 26.5 free throws over this 8 game period. In the 10 games prior to this 8 game period, Arkansas averaged 19.3 free throws attempts per game - right in line with D1 average per game. The coaching staff gave a clear direction to our players prior to the game - wall up with your hands in the air and maintain verticality. I am including two clips here of just that in which the Arkansas player initiated contact, Zuby and Kadary went straight up with their hands in the air, and Arkansas was rewarded with two trips to the free throw line. In the first clip, St. John's had a 4 point lead with 2 minutes to go in the first half with momentum as Arkansas hadn't made a field goal in 3 minutes. Zuby does exactly what he was instructed when Boogie Fland initiated contact and the baseline ref who is 6 feet away from the action does not blow his whistle, but another ref does award Boogie Fland two free throws. That started a 7-0 run for Arkansas and they went into the half with a 3 point lead. I can't provide enough words on the second clip on just how unjust it was to have a late whistle call on Kadary going straight up in the air and getting his fifth foul called on him with 6:28 to play. Kadary was limited to just 16 minutes of play in the entire game because of foul trouble. And as a reminder, I will end this post with how I started it.
