60 Second SEO: REI is an example of a site that does pagination extremely well. By always linking to the last page of a series, they open up Google's crawl to content that's deeper in their site architecture:

One of the things that some SEOs don't consider on eCommerce sites is how pagination impacts the crawl of your category and products pages. The way that your pagination is set up directly impacts how efficiently Google is able to crawl these key pages:

As eCommerce sites with large inventories can get quite big, this is an important consideration as it impacts your crawling at scale.

REI has one of my favorite implementations within their pagination. Within the first page of a series, they include links to: 1. The next four pages in the series 2. The very last page of a series

That second part is extremely crucial as it allows Google to crawl content that's much deeper in the site architecture. Now from any page in the series, Googlebot is only "one hop" away from the content that would normally buried.

As well, Google is now only "two hops" away from page 69, 68, 67 etc. This implementation basically allows Google to crawl from "both ends".

If you have an eCommerce site, I always recommend diving deep and reviewing your pagination against competitors and other sites with strong SEO. This is one of those changes that can improve the crawling of your site at scale if done correctly.

👉 Monitor your website's search engine rankings with precision. Track keywords, analyze competitors, and improve your SEO strategy.

Yes. In their recs too. Nice one. 👍

very interesting. it would help a lot especially for small-medium ecommerce websites.

Love these, Chris. Do you agree with their canonical structure for their paginated pages? What are the best practices for that?
