Broncos coach Sean Payton said he had a specific field-goal rush called Sunday when the Colts attempted a 60-yard field goal -- just as he did on a PAT in New Orleans nine years ago. "But that's on me ... it's not on Darren [Rizzi], it's not on [Dondrea] Tillman," he said. "... The call was correct. That was leveraging." "... But my big regret flying home was, that (the field-goal rush call) more for a closer field goal. That's more for a gimme than a 60-yard attempt -- and that's on me."

Happy Birthday, Dave Hampton! The first #Falcons player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season Dave spent his first three seasons as a dangerous kick returner with the #Packers. After leading the NFL in kick return yards in 1971, he went to Atlanta. In '72, he broke the 1,000-yard rushing plateau in the season's final week, but then lost yardage and finished with 995. He led the NFL in all-purpose yards that year. He rushed for 997 yards in 1973, then finally broke the 1,000-yard barrier in 1975. A three-time Second-Team All-NFC selection

In a decade when people rented movies on VHS tapes, David “The Deuce” Palmer ended his spectacular freshman season 34 years ago today with two touchdowns as No. 8-ranked Alabama Football beat the No. 15-ranked Colorado Buffaloes, 30-25, in the Blockbuster Bowl on Dec. 28, 1991. Palmer entertained the Miami crowd with moves that seemed more fitted for a South Beach night club as he started things with a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. He provided a bookend to his offensive performance with an outstretched 5-yard touchdown reception from Jay Barker in the fourth quarter and earned the “Brian Piccolo Award” as the most valuable player. Colorado had won the national championship the previous season, but Alabama held the Buffaloes to minus-11 yards rushing on 30 attempts. Besides the pass to Palmer, Barker also threw touchdowns to Siran Stacy (13 yards) and Kevin Lee (12 yards). Matt Wethington also kicked a 25-yard field goal for the Crimson Tide. Alabama finished 11-1 to set the stage for a national championship run of its own the following season.

The NFL was DIFFERENT 45 years ago What a resilient effort by the #Bengals' receiver/punter Pat McInally • Knocked unconscious after taking one of NFL history's most vicious hits early in the game, lays motionless for 10 minutes, and is then carted off • Returns to punt in the second quarter and draws a roughing the kicker call • Returns as a receiver in the third quarter and makes a SPECTACULAR over-the-head game-tying 59-yard touchdown reception December 21, 1980
