7 years on from the Paulley v Firstgroup ruling, which affirmed bus drivers’ duty to ask those with buggies to vacate the wheelchair space, this is still a weekly occurrence. Why am I regularly refused access to a bus and forced to wait for a 2nd or 3rd? Why...

Today the wait for the next bus was 8 minutes, but the 2nd bus had a faulty ramp leading to a further delay. These may seem trivial delays, but they add up - and feature in *every single journey I make*. My journeys are already much longer (can’t use the Tube). It’s exhausting.

It’s important I have priority access to the wheelchair space because I use a wheelchair for every single journey I make. If I was stopped from boarding a bus every time there’s a buggy/luggage, I wouldn’t get anywhere ever. There’s many more buggies than wheelchairs!

I worked in accessible transport campaigning for 5 years, had countless meetings with TfL, read pages of “inclusivity strategies” etc etc, and I cannot for the life of me work out why things are not changing? Why do we have the same conversation over and over again?

At a time when action on climate, tackling pollution, and relieving congestion is needed more than ever, why is it not a priority to enable as many people as possible to use public transport? I shouldn’t be forced to depend on cars. Let me on the damn bus! 😩

Start taking legal proceedings against bus companies . Only way.

You may be right! But considering we already have the Paulley v Firstgroup precedent (and this doesn’t seem to affect driver behaviour) - I am not confident another identical case would help?

Even as a non disabled person this really really bloody annoys me. Buggies should 100% be asked to vacate the spaces to accommodate wheelchairs

I was dealing with this almost 20 years ago on my way to school. Can’t believe it’s still happening!
