2/CASGEVY - formerly known as $CRSP & $VRTX Exa-cel - is an autologous Ex-Vivo CRISPR/Cas9 Gene editing therapy for patients suffering from TDT or severe SCD. Autologous means that the cells are taken from the patient himself ➡️ edited by CRISPR ➡️ returned to the patient’s body.

6/A significant aspect is $VRTX statement that it recently filed a manufacturing license submission with the FDA. @VertexPharma and Lonza - one of the world’s largest contract development and manufacturing organizations, signed in 2024 a long-term commercial supply agreement in which CASGEVY will be manufactured at Lonza’s Geleen (NL) cell therapy manufacturing facility. Now $VRTX plans to expand the production of CASGEVY to Portsmouth, NH (US) and to begin manufacturing in the second half of 2025. This submission is part of the planned ramp of CASGEVY manufacturing capacity as demand for the therapy increases and is highly relevant to the tariff wars which are now taking place.
