So a politician interfered with the lawful imprisonment of a habitual rabble rouser and was politically rewarded? History rhymes, right?

No, New Deal was when it started. 30's. Not saying this didn't have an effect, but it wasn't first order effect

I've never heard this story before. The story I heard was that blacks joined the democrats after LBJohnson signed the welfare state legislation.

Now that Richard Nixon’s own recordings are available, we all know he was prejudiced. Nixon believed in “racial hierarchy.” These days, we don’t have to rely on secret recordings; Donald Trump does his racism out loud.

All of the goodwill whites had toward blacks has been used up from stolen bikes and armed robberies. There is no empathy left in the tank.

This is what I’ve been thinking.. the black community, underneath it all, want a little love, not so much subsidy.. but love, even with accountability. They realize the democrats very much look down on them, and are open to fair treatment from repubs, if it comes with respect.
