Once again, the El Niño supercharged Pacific Ocean has produced an absolute cyclonic sea monster. To the west of Hawaii, Hurricane Lala now has a frosty, circular fjord of an eyewall that is casting visible shadows over an icily deep Stadium Effect. We are easily into CAT 4 territory.

The ~2,000 people living on Rota just experienced a catastrophic whiteout of 180 MPH sustained winds as Super Typhoon Bavi’s western eyewall hit the island. Then, for an hour, everything suddenly went quiet. The winds dropped to zero and the sky turned bright from misty sunshine, as the island found itself near the center of Bavi’s 901 MBAR Stadium Effect. Gotta get to bed since we'll be up at 3 am to do another mission into #Melissa right before landfall in Jamaica tomorrow. Here's a video I took today going through the NE eyewall into the eye. I had to tilt the phone up to get a view of the eye because it was so cylindrical (not the classic stadium effect). Reminded me a lot of Hurricane Michael in 2018.
