I never got to experience the full credit card sized sim but I have been around for the “chip” sized SIM cards, the Nano SIM cards, the Micro SIM cards and now the E-SIM Cards. Screens get bigger, cards got smaller and phones cost more.

The Motorola looks like a toy, I like it though.

The StarTac was ahead of its time in functionality and design, with awesome use of impact-resistant plastics. The belt holster was also equally as innovative.

Fun fact, the antennas that flip out like that were fake. Also, I think it’s late 90s early 2000s for the phones shown here.

Who remembers these crazy vintage phones. We have come a long way indeed.

Remember the prepaid scratch cards

Important to note these were not very common and particularly only in very high-end European phones. In the US we were still largely using AMPS (analog) networks until the mid 2000s, and even then most digital networks were TDMA and eventually CDMA which didn't use SIMs.

Always wondered why it came as a card.

Back then I had a mobile-phone that didn’t even had a simm card slot. It worked on the NMT network. I’m still having the phone, somewhere.

This is how I find out at one point SIM cards were actual like credit card sized!

Someone threw one of those seimen phones into my yard back in the day & id always pretend to be a business man. It was probably a drug dealers phone.

We need a remake but this time we insert our credit cards directly into the phone. 😁

the card shown has the cutouts to remove the mini-sim, so it's not an authentic full-sized sim card from the early 90s. mini-sims were introduced in 1996 though so it could still be the 90s.

Those big cards are telephone cards, for public phones. @ 0.26 there 's a sim card used in the first mobile phones.
