The first coherent thought I hear echoing from each of them is "We've got to get everybody out of here!" Not we've got to get out of here.... we've got to get everyone else out. That's the definition of heroism right there.

It's depressing how this terrible event is just a punchline to children and shitty people everywhere.

We lost over 300 firefighters and 90 police officers in one day, absolutely devastating.

You see zero hesitation from Batallion Chief Pfeiffer right there. He heard the sound, felt the vibration, knew instantly what it meant, and moved for a more reinforced area with exit access.

Can you imagine?! They must have all thought it was over for them, just death any moment! The Naudet brothers did an absolutely outstanding job of documenting that day!

Thank god the South tower collapsed first. The firefighters created a headquarters in the north tower then evacuated after the south tower collapse. That day could have been much worse

I can’t begin to imagine how loud that was in person.

Scary to see how everything went pitch black in seconds…

Such an incredible piece of footage. This layout shows where they were stationed, marked X and where they ran, north out the doors of WTC1 leading to the internal escalator access to WTC6.

I watch this documentary every year on 9/11 and it never fails to move me. I can’t imagine being in their positions and running up the building to save people instead of out of it. That’s why those men are heroes.

I don’t know how exactly people were even able to come close to process what was happening there in person at the World Trade Center, but I would’ve probably disassociated and thought it was just a REALLY bad nightmare, and hope that I would probably just wake up from it soon.

@justdude222 Wow, I had never seen the second half of the top clip after they start running. It looks like a blizzard. 😟

From the doc: 9/11. The shock doesn’t truly set in ‘til the look out the window. What once stood tall and proud our entire existence is no longer there. It’s gone.

Imagine being in the north tower above the impact zone and seeing the South Tower collapse in front of you - the realisation that its going to happen to the building you're trapped in

Watched the full 2hr Jules Naudet footage on YouTube last night. The event seemed to be over way too quickly when viewing first hand

Batallion Chief Joseph Pfeifer, seen pacing and talking on his radio here, was the first FDNY Chief on scene at the WTC on 09/11/2001. His book, Ordinary Heroes, is all about that day, the days that followed and the aftermath. A good read. 👍

Wasn’t that footage from inside building 7? Where emergency management was?

I think those firefighters are who the movie World Trade Center starring Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena is based on... I think.

They had no idea that because of the way the buildings were designed, they were doomed to pancake to the ground.

Oh my god. I thought for a second that was footage from inside the South tower as it collapsed.

that second panel with the plane already in frame is the part that never leaves you. the naudet footage is the only reason we know what those men walked into.

The thing that got me most here is that they ran UP, towards the danger without any hesitation
