Nader Hanna, 18, met up with his twin brother and some friends outside of the Pleasanton In-N-Out Burger to get some food and set off fireworks in the parking lot. Nader, who said the group of teens had done this several times, said his buddy handed him a tennis-ball-sized firework, which immediately exploded when he lit the fuse. “It just exploded in my hand the second I lit it… My hand took the whole blow. I looked down, and I didn’t see a hand. It disintegrated.” His twin brother Ramsey frantically called 911 as his friend, Kevan Mokashi, ran inside the restaurant ot seek help with Nader's exploded left hand. The Pleasanton Police Department said they will not cite Nader due to the severity of his injuries and that the firework is believed to be an illegal one and not a California legal firework of the “safe and sane” variety.

A 60-year-old man is in police custody in Broward County, Florida after he was caught on camera Wednesday throwing an elderly German shepherd off the back of a box truck, several feet above the ground, and then abandoning it while it was immobile on the ground. The suspect, Humberto Exposito, was making a delivery to a supermarket when the incident happened. The Pembroke Police Department says the dog, Nico, was found malnourished with matted hair, and appears to have advanced hip dysplasia. According to the website of Broward County Animal Care, where Nico was taken for evaluation, he has a placement and is not available for adoption.

NEW: Body cam footage shows police officer shooting and killing a man in his own home after the officer saw the man holding a shotgun. 44-year-old Trinidad Ledesma was killed after police responded to a domestic dispute call. The Surprise (Arizona) Police officer entered the home after the man's presumed partner opened the door and said "he's trying to hit me." When the police turned the corner, Ledesma could be heard saying: "Don’t come in. Don’t come near, boss." The officer then saw a "black shotgun" in his right hand and immediately shot and killed him. During the incident, the officer called it an AR-15. The officer claims Ledesma started moving the barrel in his direction which is why he shot. Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident.

An Edmonton man says his car was stolen at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace meetup near James Mowatt Trail on Monday. He says three masked suspects approached, one pointed a pistol at him and they drove away in his 2006 Toyota Highlander. The next morning, he says the vehicle was found parked nearby. After he was told by police not to touch it while officers arranged to recover it, he says the suspects returned and stole it again. He says the vehicle remains missing and he is now unable to work because he only carries liability insurance.
