A 66year old construction worker calls Dave after successfully building a $1.7 million nest egg over a 35year marriage. He said he worked as an electrician while his wife worked in the insurance business, noting that she actually saved even more than him by consistently maxing out her 401(k)...

Jenna from Milwaukee calls into Dave RamseyShow seeking advice on her 401(k). She explains that her financial advisor has recommended she stop contributing to her company’s Roth 401(k) and switch to a traditional 401(k) instead, claiming her income level would yield significant tax savings today. Dave immediately tells Jenna she needs a new financial advisor who can actually do math. After figuring out that the 40 year old Jenna plans to max out her contributions at about $24,000 a year, Dave projects that she will amass roughly $3.1 million by age 65. He highlights the massive flaw in her advisor's logic: The advisor is hyper focused on saving taxes on her $600,000 principal contribution today. By choosing a traditional plan, Jenna avoids tax now but sets herself up to pay a massive tax bill on the remaining $2.5 million in growth when she retires. Dave calls this fundamentally "bad math". Dave uses his own situation as a 65 year old multi millionaire to explain the ultimate benefit of the Roth. With a Roth, he doesn't face required minimum distributions (RMDs) at age 72.5, and the wealth passes to his heirs completely tax-free. Conversely, he warns that under current laws (like the Secure Act), inheriting a massive traditional IRA forces the heirs to withdraw the entire balance within 10 years. In Jenna's scenario, her kids would be hit with an astronomical tax burden effectively paying income taxes on roughly $300,000 a year for a decade. Dave concludes by expressing utter disbelief that a professional financial advisor could make a recommendation that results in paying "light years more taxes" over time.

Dave Ramsey: "No." Dr. John Delony: "George Kamel?" Dave Ramsey: "No, the guy with the guy with the $400 million net worth, that would not be James and that would not be George Kamel." Dr. John Delony: "Catch... Oh, that's my bad, my bad." Dave Ramsey: "Yeah, his name is Shaq. You might have heard of him." Dr. John Delony: "Shaq! Shaquille O'Neal, there we go." Dave Ramsey: "You might have heard of him, yeah. So, he took the Collins family out to dinner at Babe's Chicken. The next day he took them to the Mercedes-Benz dealer and bought them a 15-passenger van. After buying the car, they went out to dinner again at the Rainforest Cafe, where he dropped another thousand bucks with the tip on the waitress just the tip to the waitress alone. And after dinner, he noticed uh Karissa's husband's truck, which was the heat and air and the air conditioning was falling apart. You know, it was a dumpy truck, and so he took him down to the Ford dealership and bought him a new truck. Who is Shaq?" Dr. John Delony: "You know I could get Dave Ramsey: "Is he like Elvis? Frank Edoho’s voice call with Titi where he said Chike had a girlfriend called Precious. I met Chike and told him, if my wife was foolish enough to cheat on her husband, why would you encourage it?” According to Frank, Chike responded by asking, “Is that what she told you?” Frank said he replied that if his wife still meant as much to him as she did before all the drama started, he could have seriously harmed Chike and left him in a wheelchair. But instead, he begged him to leave his wife alone because they had two sons together and he still wanted to save his family. He revealed that Chike even sent him an apology text at some point, but despite that, the relationship allegedly continued. Frank said he still doesn’t understand what he did to deserve the situation. He also explained how he supported his ex-wife from the beginning. According to him, he sent her to school around 2010/2011, and when she returned and wanted to start working, he encouraged her to start a business instead. She reportedly mentioned skincare and interior decor, and he advised her to focus on interior decor. Frank claimed he helped her build the business from scratch, found her first carpenter, handled a lot of the setup, and even spent years learning interior design photography just to support her work. He said he dedicated his time, energy, and resources to helping her grow. According to him, problems started after she became more successful, and that was when the alleged affair with Chike began. He said no matter how much he begged her to leave Chike, she refused. Frank also revealed that at one point, he left the house and stayed in a hotel for three months. He claimed his wife later found him, cried, and begged him to return home, but only two weeks after he returned, things allegedly went back to how they were before. He added that while he was trying to move on emotionally, his ex-wife eventually saw him with another woman, became upset, and then filed for divorce. Frank ended by explaining that when people talk about the “malice” issue, they misunderstand the context. According to him, he wasn’t just keeping malice for no reason, but reacting to pain from someone he genuinely loved.
