@PCRonline I’ve had this happen. Often times the foot plate doesn’t retract completely because there’s tissue stuck in the groove where it closes. Sometimes just opening and closing a few times is enough to release it and allow for retraction.

@PCRonline You can pop open the back of it and there is a clear plastic piece on the inside. When you pull on this clear piece it will retract the footplate. Sometimes the knot can also be stuck so cut the suture too.

Thank you Michael. This is helpful. In our case, the footplate wouldn’t retract, even after we dismantled* the device. We found tissue trapped between the footplate and its housing. FWIW, I took the Perclose apart at the handle - which is how I learned it. Not sure if that made a difference.

@ChengaziMD @PCRonline Had it happen to me once where I actually accessed through a CFA stent inadvertently and realized end of procedure. Eventually was able to retrieve it but was scary for sure 😱

@willsuh76 @PCRonline Great Tip! Abbott reps can’t tell you to do this. Why? Guidant reps once instructed doctors to manipulate the Ancure device the same way — it led to the device’s recall. No device company or rep from that era ever forgot the lesson.

@PCRonline I find it easier to insert a kelly into the top of perclose(light blue part) open it, take off black lever and release the footplate
