The Su-57 was flown for the first time with the "Izdeliye 177" engine. This is the third new engine tested on the fighter, following Izdeliye 30 in 2017 and a rectangular-nozzle engine in 2024. Izdeliye 177 delivers 16,500 kgf of thrust and uses an axisymmetric serrated nozzle.

Developed from the experience gained through the original Kaveri engine, the new programme aims to overcome the challenges that previously prevented India from using Kaveri to power the Tejas fighter. The bigger goal is strategic: develop a powerful indigenous turbofan that can eventually support India’s future combat aircraft, including the AMCA. Our latest ARCOS TCA hot-fire campaign at the German Aerospace Center DLR - English marks a major milestone in the development of our in-house methalox thrust chamber assembly. The campaign demonstrated stable and repeatable operation across a wide operating envelope (60–105% thrust and multiple mixture ratios), validating a deeply throttleable core thrust module to be replicated across ARCOS’ aerospike architecture. Reliable ignition and shutdown, stable chamber pressure behaviour, and no critical structural damage were observed after testing. A key step forward towards full ARCOS aerospike engine assembly — and for Europe’s propulsion capabilities. This unmanned drone, roughly F-16 sized and packing a Pratt & Whitney F100 engine, is the biggest and heaviest in Hermeus lineup yet. It just got its Special Airworthiness Certificate (Experimental Category), clearing the path for high-speed flight tests out of Spaceport America in New Mexico. Hermeus is all about rapid iteration... learn from one flight, build the next version smarter and faster.
