Why would they need to do this? Shouldn't they be made correctly from the start?

Imagine getting a new pair of Nikes and someone doing this😮

For those wondering, ballet dancers "break in" their shoes for a number of reasons. The shoes should be molded to the feet. Dancers' needs change based on things like their personal physiology, the performances/specific dances they are doing, how rigorous their schedule, general comfort, etc. For example, some people have weaker ankles or higher arch flexibility that they will account for in their alterations, some people will dance multiple styles in a single performance and need shoes that behave differently, some dancers break them in because they will dance their ass off and use one pair of shoes per performance and don't have time to let them soften over time, for some burning helps keep the shoes from fraying, for some it makes them quieter while moving on stage, or it can simply give the dancer more traction. And finally, some people don't break in their shoes and all and just let it happen naturally! It is very subjective. While ballet shoes are rooted in tradition which is a major driving force behind their design, the dancers' needs vary so wildly from person to person and from performance to performance that it's easier to customize them yourself. Ballerinas are freaks of nature (I mean that in a positive way)

Interesting to see. I hear they mess their feet up though

How much for those shoes?

Is it more comfortable now⁉️🤷♂️

Amazing like an artist
