Now his parents live worry-free as he has paid off all the debts his father borrowed to train them in school and he did this from scratch. I ask again, “HOW BIG IS YOUR DREAM?”

On Christmas Eve 2007 I was pronounced dead. Twice. When I woke up I was missing both legs and my right arm, and I was told I'd never walk again. Fourteen weeks later I marched on parade on prosthetic limbs 🦿🦾 The hardest part wasn't the surgeries or the rehab. It was choosing to start when every fact said there was no point. You don't need better circumstances to start. You need to stop negotiating with yourself. The gym. The business. The hard conversation. Whatever it is, start ugly, start scared, start today. Excuses are easy to justify. Standards are harder to keep. If this hit home, share it with someone who's been waiting for a sign. This is it.

Back in the area where I grew up for a couple of exciting days later in the week (more of that to come…) but had the opportunity today to drive around the area to some places I remember from many years ago. I lived in Humberside (as it was called then) from 1973 to 1983 during which time we took regular trips to view the construction of The Humber Bridge which was, when completed, the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. It was amazing to see this incredible structure being built and I still marvel at the size of it today. One of the notable features is the shape of the road deck. It is very similar in design to an aircraft’s wing. The aerofoil section is designed to make the bridge stable during high winds. This design was used following lessons learned from earlier, unsuccessful designs such the Tacoma Narrows bridge. I still find it hard to believe I watched this bridge being built over 50 years ago! This week I got to interview Hamish McArthur for Climbing Gold. One of the interesting nuggets was that he said one of his gifts as a climber (besides being the first person to climb V17 in a session…) was his ability to quickly assess and learn from his movement. It inspired me to start videoing attempts on the board, and lo and behold I sent a few things with subtle tweaks to body position, etc. I guess I may have to join modernity and start using video as a tool more…

Stormwind was the first city we ever built. Our lead programmer had it load and play the song "We built this city" to our surprise when we first loaded in. The first version of Stormwind had no districts or canals. The framerate was below terrible. Then I thought of Venice. I grabbed a map of the city and slapped it down on the table the next morning. THIS, I said, is how we'll partition the city, drawing only the district you can see, separated by canals. It worked, and Stormwind was born.

My initial problem with Liquid Glass was that it was terrible for accessibility despite how beautiful it looks it certain places. There is literally only one way to solve this readability issue – make the glass frosted/opaque. And from the public backlash that Apple received it was pretty obvious that it was a matter of time before they made this change. The problem now is that when you make it opaque, it barely looks any different from iOS 18, yet it keeps eating up resources and draining your battery. 3 betas in, and I still feel like this design direction was a big mistake.

I simply mirrored the trees on the Z axis and added screen distortion to make it look like they were being reflected in the water. The skybox is just a static image. Truth is, there was no water from the start.

This tool is amazing and if you are looking into XR design you MUST try ShapesXR - every time I think of an idea I can easily prototype it before spending a lot of time in development. I also love the fact that I was able to import this into Unity, I made a few changes after the fact but it allowed me to get started fairly quickly.
