Certainly the world didn't need another car company that made gasoline cars. There are plenty of those. But no one was doing electric cars. The reason we started Tesla and put all the effort into it was not because we thought there was this huge opportunity in electric vehicles, but actually because no one was doing electric. Everyone thought it was stupid. And the big companies thought it was dumb, and there weren't really any startups doing it.
