A warthunder B-17 will explode into a million pieces if you put three .50s through the tail

I'm guessing the crew was either dead or severely wounded halfway through that attack, the rear gunner wasn't returning fire, and the ball turret guns were pointing down

Lone bomber not shooting back, ball turret not even pointing at the germans. If there was anybody left in that plane they had nowhere to go but down

Good riddance. This bomber and others like it were responsible for the deaths of thousands of German babies in the firebombing of Dresden and other cities-- an unspeakable war crime that America has never answered for.

Hard to watch...the Germans had it down to a science. Many espoused frontal attacks, taking out the nose gunner, then the pilots. There is a vast amount of German gun-camera footage available.

Nazi Germany hasn’t changed. Same today as back then. F- Germany.

Unusual situation for 1944. Out of formation, no escort fighters.

Those 20mm’s are murderous. Gotta hand it to Boeing, that’s a tremendous amount of punishment.

Those 30mm doesn't do much on the b17 itself but the crew on the back is either dead or wounded.

I thought it was the Iranians shooting down another F-35.

Imagine, rolling up on this monster of a plane and just unloading all your rounds until it falls out of the sky. It can't run away. It can't fight back It just had to take it until it dies. Brutal.

And he shoots. And shoots. And shoots. And B-17 just keeps flying.

Gaijin really need to buff Bombers man. One lucky 20mm and goodbye to your tail. NO AMOUNT OF LUCK CAN MAKE A 20mm AP act like a 40mm HE

And in war thunder a single burst makes the whole bomber fall to pieces.

The Germans did not like attacking bombers at the tail end because of the gunners. For a time they preferred attacking head to head since there were less guns to train on them. Also they attacked the wing roots preferably. Bringing a B-17 down was tough to do.

I think the ballgunner is dead. It wasn't shooting back.

seems clear that the tact was to take out the ball turret first then the tail gun and only then the engine nacelles. really good pilot working precisely.

Brutal—good grief. The gunner definitely didn't survive that. I used to play *IL-2 Sturmovik*. If you could position your plane like that behind a bomber, you had all the time in the world to absolutely tear the bomber apart with the 20+30mm autocannons.
