Human Skin developed for Robots by University of Tokyo. It is also self healing. It is uncanny and well you decide. Let see, a 🧵 — Japanese scientists from the University of Tokyo have developed a groundbreaking method to attach living, lab-grown skin to robotic faces, enabling lifelike smiles and facial expressions. It mimics human tissue structures, using collagen-based gels and perforation-type anchors to securely bind the skin to the robot's surface without tearing or peeling during movement. The artificial skin is soft, self-healing, and capable of stretching, paving the way for more realistic humanoid robots. While still in its early stages, this technology has potential applications in robotics, cosmetics, and medical research. This technology will be deployed before most of the world has a chance to understand the implications…

A robot with wheels and legs! 🦿 Wheeled mobile robots are popular in many fields because they are stable, efficient, and simple to build. However, they often occupy more space than humans and struggle to navigate crowded hallways, ramps, or elevators. 🛗 To address this, a robot developed at the Korea University of Technology and Education combines legs for extra support and mecanum wheels for smooth, all-directional movement. It has a slim, human-like design with four wheel-leg mechanisms, each using a special 2-DOF leg and a mecanum wheel. A unique mechanism keeps the wheels steady while the legs move, helping the robot stay agile and absorb shocks. The design also reduces strain on the motors, making it more efficient. Tests showed that the robot could move quickly, climb steps, and navigate elevators with people. Research paper in the comments! 🗞️ ~~~ ♻️ R to help 1 robot find a new workplace.

Hands full of dexterity! 🪬 It is well known that agile, versatile hands for robots are one of the Holy Grails in robotics today. Grippers and robot hands are often underestimated, and they are the actuators behind correct and accurate picking, or placing. This robotic hand was created at the Korea University of Technology and Education. 🇰🇷 The 5-finger, 12-DoF (degrees of freedom) robotic hand features 3-DoF each for the thumb, index, and middle fingers, while the ring and little fingers share a combined 3 DoF. It uses BLDC motors with ball-screw actuators and includes a clutch mechanism to absorb impacts and prevent overload. Now, a challenge for you - guess the year! Kudos to all gripper/hand-developing companies! WE CAN'T PICK WITHOUT YOU! 🏋🏼 ~~~ ♻️ RT to help 1 robot find a new workplace.

Tesla just got granted new patent for robotic Knee join and of course I have to make a video about it 😀 This patent application describes a sophisticated robotic knee joint designed by Tesla to emulate the complex movement of a human leg. The invention utilizes a linear actuator and a specialized linkage system to provide a wide range of motion while maintaining energy efficiency. By integrating processing circuitry and a controller, the system can precisely calculate and execute the necessary torque and displacement for fluid mobility. This mechanical design is specifically tailored for use in humanoid robots, allowing them to perform tasks with a more natural and effective gait. The documentation further includes technical illustrations and simulation data to demonstrate how the joint achieves optimal performance through its unique structural configuration.

The future of manufacturing is expressive. We’re building elastic factories that think, learn, and create. Factories where design freedom meets production speed. Where AI and robotics form metal with precision and intent. No tooling. No limits. This is what we mean by Expressive Manufacturing: Production that adapts to design intent on demand and on location. Reindustrialization 2.0 is rebuilding manufacturing in the U.S. in a way that empowers creativity, adaptability, and imagination at scale.

🤖 Three Japanese innovators just proved that the future of robotics can be printed — not assembled. 🇯🇵✨ I find this incredible. Japan has always led the world in robotics, but this breakthrough feels different — more creative, more human. A team of three brilliant minds has built a fully functional 3D-printed robotic system, rethinking everything from the gears to the frame. The result? Robots that are lighter, faster to produce, and easier to customize than ever before. What fascinates me is how this blends engineering and imagination — where design isn’t constrained by parts, but shaped by possibilities. This could change how we build robots, how we teach automation, and how quickly we bring new ideas to life. Would you trust a 3D-printed robot to work alongside you? #AI #Innovation #Technology #Robotics #3DPrinting #Automation #FutureOfWork #Engineering

ELON: TESLA IS UNIQUELY POSITIONED TO MANUFACTURE A HUMANOID ROBOT “We really have by far the best team of humanoid robotics engineers in the world. We also have all the other ingredients necessary. You need a great battery pack, you need great power electronics, you need a great charging capability, you need great communications, it's going to have Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. And of course you need real-world AI. And then, the ability to scale that production to huge levels. You have to design for manufacturing. What other companies are missing is they're missing the real-world AI, and they're missing the ability to scale manufacturing to millions of units a year.” Source: Tesla Financial Results Webcast, January 29, 2025

ELON MUSK: "Optimus will be the biggest product ever, but it is a very complex problem to solve. It's one of the hardest things to solve, to make an autonomous humanoid robot that can do tasks that, if you simply ask it to do something or show it a video, it can do the task without any programming. No one's ever achieved this, and there are many challenges in the design of the robot to achieve sufficient dexterity and to be very reliable and have long wear and tear, meaning it needs to be out in the field and not break down. Otherwise, you've got sort of a 70 kilogram robot that just flopped over and you've got to carry it out like a body, you know, it doesn't have wheels. And we don't want Optimus to go haywire. So it's a lot of work to scale, to get the design right and to scale production. This is going to be the hardest product to scale manufacturing that we've ever made at Tesla because everything on the robot is new. And the difficulty of scaling the production ramp is proportionate to the newness of the parts in the robot. With Optimus, there is no supply chain. So we've had to build up a supply chain in its entirety or in-house the production. The Optimus production line that we're building out in Fremont in place of what used to be the Model S & X production, it looks incredible. It's quite stunning to see."

Elon Musk revealed the 3 hardest challenges for humanoid robots and how Tesla is solving them There are really only three hard things for humanoid robots: - Real-world intelligence - The hand and - Scale manufacturing "I haven’t seen any demo robots that have a great hand with all the degrees of freedom of a human hand. But Optimus does have that" To reach human-level dexterity, Tesla had to design custom actuators, motors, gears, power electronics, controls, and sensors, everything from physics first principles There is no supply chain for this "From an electromechanical standpoint, the hand is more difficult than everything else combined. The human hand turns out to be quite something" This is why Optimus is on a completely different level. Tesla is solving the hardest problems from the ground up
