A shopper paid at Walmart, chose a digital receipt, and then couldn’t get the doors or app to cooperate. She asked for help. A Walmart associate wouldn’t let her leave. A bystander walked up and told the officer/security that there was still an “outstanding balance” / that she hadn’t paid. The officer repeated that line to her face: he didn’t think she paid. She pushed back that the woman wasn’t even there when she checked out, that Walmart offers the digital option so a paper receipt failing to load isn’t her fault, and that being walked over and told she stole her own groceries was humiliating. Staff later pulled cameras and transactions. She had paid. When she asked for an apology, the officer said no and “good night.” That’s the clip: paid customer, broken digital proof, a stranger’s accusation treated as fact, confirmation she was right, zero apology. Walmart is not Costco or Sam’s Club. There is no membership contract that makes a receipt check a condition of shopping. In most states the door check is a request. Shopkeeper’s privilege only lets them detain you if they have reasonable suspicion of actual theft — a refused receipt check by itself usually isn’t that. 🙄The check out girl comes out of the restroom to a mostly empty store and she’s a lady at the self checkout and goes over to have a look, she asks the lady for a receipt and she hands her a receipt with two items on it, when she is questioned about the other items in her cart she accuses the clerk of accusing her of stealing, am I missing something here ? Is this just another case of someone trying to provoke employees into a viral post ?

This woman’s husband was in a wheelchair at Costco, he also has stage 4 terminal cancer. His life saving medication was in a backpack slung onto the wheelchair. The woman had her receipt on hand but the door receipt checker insisted on checking the man’s backpack instead, they refused and walked right by. As they walked by, the receipt checker yells “she hit me!” Costco employees then swarm the woman and her husband and she calls the police because she didn’t feel comfortable being surrounded by hostility. She does have it on video where she walks right by, so the receipt checker is on a power trip and lied, should she be charged or just let go?

This woman wasn’t happy with her purchase, so she went back to Target to return it, she didn’t have the receipt but she figured they can look it up because she had the card she used to pay. The employee that handled her return looked like she walked in from the street, oversized sweats with ear buds in and smacking him loudly. The employee claimed she couldn’t find it and proceeded to call for security to remove the customer and also called the police to remove her. The woman started having a panic attack and the employee’s response was “just leave!” I think we need a better solution for returns that’s clean cut and aware to all, how would you feel if you were treated like this, would you just accept you can’t return without a receipt and leave?
