The human teeth are composed of enamel, the hardest substance in the body, capable of withstanding immense force. If a bullet strikes the oral cavity at a low velocity or a deflected angle, the teeth and surrounding bone (maxilla or mandible) may absorb enough kinetic energy to halt or redirect the bullet’s trajectory. This type of trauma is often seen in close-range firearm injuries where velocity and penetration force are reduced, increasing the chance of dental structures preventing deeper penetration into critical areas like the brainstem or carotid arteries.

For Anyone Curious; This happened in December 2003 during the Iraq War. The soldier was U.S. Army Sergeant Christopher LeBleu, and the surgery was performed by Dr. AnnaLee Kruyer, a Las Vegas dentist who served with the Army dental team in Iraq for a year.
