I am 90% sure that is just a piece of popcorn that gained sentience. But the science is brilliant: That "wool" isn't fur. It's a waxy secretion that the Butternut Woolly Sawfly larva produces to confuse predators. It is wearing a chemical ghillie suit to make itself look like inedible mold. It's nature's fluffiest disguise.
