The direction this is going: Laws banning children from using social media -> Laws requiring ALL social media users to identify themselves with govt. ID -> Apply to internet use in general -> Apply to communication in general -> End of privacy and anonymity -> Dystopia

You ever notice that we keep giving children the one thing adults can’t seem to handle themselves? A phone. We hand it to them like it’s a toy… even though half the grown ups using one can’t make it through a red light without checking it. We used to worry about kids sneaking out of bed to read with a flashlight. Now we worry about them staying up all night staring into a device bright enough to land a plane. Scientists tell us that using a phone at bedtime can interfere with brain development. They say the blue light shuts off melatonin, the sleep hormone. They say the brain can’t grow the way it’s supposed to without real rest. And they’re right. But here’s the part that doesn’t get said enough. It’s not just the light that’s the problem. It’s the life inside the screen. Kids aren’t just watching videos or playing games anymore. They’re having conversations with algorithms that never sleep, never pause, and never say, “That’s enough for tonight.” Some of those AI systems reward every swipe and every tap with a tiny hit of dopamine, the same chemical that makes gamblers gamble and addicts crave more. And children, whose prefrontal cortex won’t fully mature until age 25, don’t stand a chance against a machine designed to keep them awake. When I was young, bedtime was bedtime. Parents didn’t negotiate with the electric company or ask the radio to quiet down. But today, a glowing piece of glass has become the third parent in the home the one that never says no. We’ve outsourced companionship to a chatbot, entertainment to an algorithm, and discipline to the hope that a child will somehow police themselves better than the adults who built these things. The truth is, a child’s brain grows in the dark. It grows in the quiet. It grows in the slow, boring moments when nothing is buzzing or pinging or asking for attention. That’s where imagination comes from. That’s where empathy comes from. But bedtime, for a lot of kids now, is just daytime with the lights off. So maybe the question isn’t whether phones harm a child’s brain. Maybe it’s whether we’ve forgotten that children still need someone to tell them when the day is over and that tomorrow will still be there when they wake up. I’m @Rick_1268 . And I’ve yet to meet a teenager whose life improved because a machine kept them awake past midnight.

Both Adults and children alike suffer from this, but the children are impacted the most Thankfully QuitStake gives us a solution to undo the damage from phone screen addictions and give ourselves a fighting chance vs the billions spent by tech companies to keep us hooked.
