ASM-3ER has a range of more than 400 kilometers and can exceed Mach 3, using a combined rocket-ramjet propulsion system. Its terminal guidance combines active and passive radar homing, while satellite links allow updated targeting data to be received in flight. Japan has also tested compatibility with the JADGE command network, allowing external sensors such as E-767 AWACS aircraft to provide targeting information.
