The film is based on Davidson’s life, and he also appears in it. At the ceremony, Davidson was heard shouting several profanities, including a derogatory term aimed at Black people, as a result of his condition. His co-star stressed that Tourette’s is a neurological disorder people have no control over and that John had every right to attend the BAFTAs.

It is based on a true story of a soldier who was working far away from his village and had a dream of his mother not feeling well and he requested for a work leave from the Zim army. When he arrived at his village coincidentally his mother was on her death bed and he wouldn't have known had he not made it back home.
