Video evidence of Cow Abduction...👀 This short video that shows a cow being lifted in the sky into a mysterious “cloud” that quickly disappears. The footage was supposedly shot in 1983 by a farmer in Argentina and provides a rare glimpse as to what an abduction may actually look like. It is claimed that the cow was found the next day back in the pasture, dead and drained of all its blood. Notice that the “cloud” looks strangely like a disc-shaped UFO that seems to be masking itself. Some have claimed that the video is not authentic, but either way, it is very interesting footage that I think is worth your time.

This was not that. Israel packed more than a thousand tons into the tunnels under Ali Taher and lit them. The night sky went orange. The glow sat on the horizon like the hillside itself had opened. People felt it. Instruments picked it up. From a lookout above the lights of the valley it looked like the world had a hole punched in it. Call the yield what it is… about 1.1 kilotons. That is a hundred MOABs in one shot. That is the same energy neighborhood as a small tactical nuke, dumped into rock instead of air. No mushroom cloud. No fallout. Today only, Toxic Town billboards are using real time data to show what air quality is like across the country. If the air quality is “good” you will see a full poster for the series. If the air quality is “poor”, we are sacrificing our billboards to be covered in a cloud of white smoke. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

Jet Fuel is a fascinating story. We don’t measure it in litres, we measure it in weight, because fuel expands/contracts with temperature while weight stays constant. Jet fuel’s specific gravity is ~0.8, so 1 litre ≈ 0.8 kg (lighter than water). It’s also worth noting that jet fuel is essentially a highly refined kerosene, far less volatile than gasoline, which makes it safer to handle in large quantities. On a long-haul, fuel can be close to half the aircraft’s total weight at departure. On the A350-1000, that can be ~129 tonnes. At most major international airports, this much fuel doesn’t turn up in a tanker. It’s stored in a depot and delivered through a network of underground hydrant pipes to each stand. The “tanker” you see is really a pump truck connecting the hydrant to the aircraft and metering the exact uplift. When I moved from the A340-600 to the A350-1000, one of the things that struck me most was just how much simpler and smarter the fuel system became and how much less fuel we required for the same journeys. On the A340-600, we needed a rear trim tank in the tail to keep the aircraft in balance during cruise. It worked beautifully, but it added complexity. The A350 doesn’t need that, instead, it uses tiny fractions of flap in cruise, together with the latest wing aerodynamics, to keep perfectly in trim. London → New York comparison (typical figures): - A340-600: ~80–90 tonnes of trip fuel - A350-1000: ~50–60 tonnes of trip fuel That’s roughly 30–40% less fuel, saving ~25–30 tonnes on a single flight, which also means about 80–95 tonnes less CO₂ (rule of thumb: 1 tonne of jet fuel ≈ 3.16 tonnes CO₂) 📸 by ig/captainchris

Satya Nadella: Microsoft’s latest Wisconsin AI data center keeps yearly water consumption no higher than that of 1 local restaurant. "The cooling loop is filled once and the data centre can operate effectively with zero water consumption. Daily water usage across a year is roughly equivalent to what a single restaurant would use" The mechanism is mainly about replacing evaporative cooling with closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling, so water moves like coolant inside a sealed machine rather than being boiled off into the air. Hot GB200-class AI racks produce too much heat for normal air cooling, so cold liquid is pushed through pipes into the servers and across metal cold plates touching the hottest chips. The liquid enters the rack cool, absorbs heat from the chips through cold plates, then exits the rack at a higher temperature and carries that heat through pipes to a huge cooling system outside the compute floor. Microsoft says Fairwater sends that hot water to cooling “fins” beside the datacenter, where 172 20-foot fans blow air across the fins and dump the heat into the outside air. The important detail is that the air cools the water through metal surfaces, so the water does not need to evaporate the way many older datacenters use cooling towers. The cooled liquid then returns to the servers, repeats the loop, and keeps absorbing heat from the chips. In older data centers, heat is often removed partly through cooling towers. Hot water meets moving air, some water evaporates, and that phase change carries heat away. Effective, but it consumes fresh water continuously. But Firwater is a closed loop because the same coolant keeps circulating through sealed pipes: it absorbs heat from the chips, releases that heat through radiator-like fins, then flows back to the chips again. Well this is a bit of a bummer. I discovered there's an existing free atmosphere/cloud package for Three.js / R3F that has all the features I was planning on implementing for Three.js Sky Pro. The weird thing is I knew this existed already? But when I searched for it, I think I happened across a different, less-featured solution. I guess it's back to the drawing board!
