Context -> This is called Lenticular clouds. Lenticular clouds are stationary clouds that form in the troposphere and look like saucers or lenses. They are also known as lee wave clouds or orographic wave clouds. Lenticular clouds form when winds blow from the same direction at different heights across hills and mountains, and there is enough moisture in the air. Lenticular clouds form downwind of an obstacle in the path of a strong air current. For example, in Boulder, Colorado, the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains is the obstacle that causes lenticular clouds to form.
