RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR ALLEGEDLY PERSECUTES CHRISTIAN PG STUDENT We received an SOS in our DM from a student from RSU. According to accounts provided by the student of Rivers State University, an incident allegedly occurred on campus yesterday involving a postgraduate student and a senior lecturer. He reports that a PG student, who is a former President of the Postgraduate Christian Fellowship, entered a Year 1 Computer Engineering class during a free period to give a brief Christian/motivational talk. The student alleges that a lecturer identified as Prof. Benjamin Senibo Pepple from the Department of Physics and a former DVC entered the room during the talk and aggressively confronted the PG student. Witnesses claim that the lecturer allegedly slapped the student several times, pulled his shirt, and verbally harassed him before contacting the CSO. The PG student was allegedly detained by campus security from morning until night and is now reported to be in poor health. Students further allege that similar incidents involving Christian student leaders have happened before and are calling on the RSU leadership, state authorities, and the public to intervene. They are requesting an independent investigation to confirm what occurred and to ensure the safety and rights of all students. The student has been released but may soon be redetained, according to what the CSO allegedly said upon his release. Below are videos to the effect:

A viral video on social media shows a physical altercation between a lecturer and a female student in a lecture hall. The video shared on Facebook on Monday by Thisis Bayelsa quickly went viral as it shows the lecturer and the student exchanging blows inside a lecture hall, with the lecturer at one point headbutting the student. The incident reportedly occured after the lecturer caught the student allegedly engaging in examination malpractice and asked her to leave the hall. The student, however, refused, insisting on retrieving her phone. "Young lady, leave the hall first. You were caught cheating. Instead of you to leave the hall, you're still doing 'give me my phone,'" the voice was heard saying in the video. In a related video circulating on Wednesday, a 300-level student of History and Diplomacy at the Faculty of Arts, identified as Favour, publicly apologised for contributing to the videoโ€™s circulation. She said, "I want to sincerely apologise for my role in the circulation of a video that has caused embarrassment to my department and the school. "I did not record the video but I acknowledged the fact that forwarding it to my class group contributed to its viral spread. "I am sorry. I know my actions were wrong and careless, and I regret it deeply. I'm sorry to the school (sic). I'm sorry to my department (sic). I'm sorry to my lecturers (sic). It was never my intention to bring shame to the department or the university. I've learnt a very important lesson and I promise to be more responsible." The university authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Credit: Facebook|Thisis Bayelsa
