But there's a time for everything: a time to serve the people, and a time to hand back the power they entrusted to you. Article 64 of our Constitution doesn't just give every Congolese citizen the right to stand against any seizure or exercise of power that violates the law — it makes it a duty. I'm exercising that duty. And I stand by it. I've always said it, and I'll say it again: when you come for the Constitution, you come for the people. And the Congolese people will not stand for it.

When all is said and done, the Constitution of the United States is a set of words on pieces of paper. The only way that the Constitution can protect us is if we protect the Constitution. If we rise up and revolt, if we vote out of office people who violate the Constitution, then of course it will mean something.
