A Converse ad is under attack for "KKK imagery." These are the same people who saw "KKK" in university lab equipment. Maybe they need to get outside more.

And why is this new Converse ad controversial? It’s like you guys are rage baiting just to anger the woke masses. It’s a K-pop star in a white skirt standing in a star-shaped spotlight holding a pair of black Chucks. That’s the whole ad. Lighting hit the fabric a certain way, the shoes are hanging from her hand, and suddenly half the internet decided it was a KKK hood and a lynching. Y’all will look at a fashion photo until your eyes cross just to find something to be offended by. Nobody at Converse sat in a boardroom and said “let’s drop lynching imagery.” It’s a shoe ad. The campaign had already been out for weeks before the U.S. internet even noticed it. But of course, Converse made it worse by falling to the false woke outrage. They immediately pulled the photo and dropped the standard “We got this wrong. We will do better” statement like they’d actually committed a hate crime. They didn’t. They just blinked first. One viral thread and the brand folded instead of saying the obvious: it’s lighting, it’s a skirt, it’s sneakers. That’s it. If you have to crop it, squint, and write a 12-tweet thread to make a sneaker commercial look like a hate crime, maybe the controversy isn’t in the ad. Maybe it’s in the people hunting for it. Wear the shoes or don’t. But this “everything is racist if you tilt your head” thing is exhausting - and companies caving to it only trains people to keep doing it.
