Woman at Chili’s claims the 18% tip amount is about 50 cents higher than her own calculation. However, the screen clearly states that the tip is calculated after tax and before discounts. Once you factor in tax being included in the base amount, the math lines up. This appears to be more of a misunderstanding of how tip calculations work than any overcharge.

Real estate agent Grant Wise told his table at the Oven and Tap restaurant in Bentonville, Arkansas, that their server, Ryan Brandt, would receive a $4,400 tip to share with another server who also worked the table. But the restaurant manager instructed Brandt to pool the tip with others who didn’t serve the generous party, an arrangement she hadn’t seen in her three years at the restaurant. "Our team contacted Oven and Tap to confirm their policies on tip sharing or pooling and received confirmation that they had no such policy," he wrote, per USA Today. "We went back, got the tip money back, and tipped the servers directly outside the restaurant to ensure they received it."
