@UCBerkeley @Tsinghua_Uni RISC-V is a global open source platform, U.S (WASP) has little contribution to its sourcing codes...as to the manufacturing, Americans major competitors are Germen, French, Japs, South Korean, Taiwan, Israel... they are all gearing up mass building their own chip plants now.

Extraordinarily insightful talk by John Thornton on China and its relations with the US. Truly a must-watch! Here he explains the "fundamental disconnect" between public statements that China-US is the most consequential relationship in the world and the utter lack of action to actually cultivate the relationship. For instance he says that if you asked US cabinet members the names of their Chinese counterparts, 90% of them wouldn't know the answer. Thornton is probably the single American who best knows the Chinese system. He is a personal friend of most of the Chinese leadership, including Xi Jinping. In 2003 he became the first non-Chinese full professor at Tsinghua University since the establishment of the PRC. He is also one of America's foremost business leaders, having been co-president of Goldman Sachs and seating on the boards of companies such as Ford, Intel, ICBC, China Unicom, IMG, BSkyB, DirectTV, or News Corp.

Chinese people LOVE their government. I often post one of dozens of surveys conducted by Harvard, Latana, and others showing that Chinese people report they are 'satisfied' with or 'approve of' the Chinese government in Beijing. A lot of data also reports on Chinese satisfaction with their democracy. Folks, ignorant about China, often exclaim that Chinese people are forced to respond in such ways. This is a ludicrous cope. Here is a video of people who pay for a service to be filmed crossing China's Palace Museum, in front of Chairman Mao, carrying flags of the PRC. There are thousands of such videos on Chinese social media. Their love of China reflects my own 13 years of talking with regular Chinese people, everyday. The vast majority of Chinese people ADORE the PRC and the CPC too. These are FACTS.

Partnership with China is preferable to getting left in the dust. If Chinese build better cars, solar panels, robots, and bridges, we need to find ways to be a part of that, not block the world's best technology out. The only way forward is together.
