Nearly 20 years ago, doctors at King’s College London asked: Would giving infants peanuts protect them from developing peanut allergies? At the time, U.S. advice said the opposite: avoid peanuts until toddlers. A 2015 study flipped that guidance, with babies who ate peanuts early were seven times less likely to develop a peanut allergy. Guidelines were updated in 2017, and a 2025 study found the shift led to a 43% drop in peanut allergy cases. That’s about 200,000 prevented in the U.S. alone, according to Dr. Gideon Lack, a professor of pediatric allergy at King’s College London.
