This is a clear example of why dams need to be removed everywhere to restore natural ecosystem. Regardless of it's economic or power impact.

Otter versus Salmon. An Otter (Lutra lutra) battles it out with an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) on the bank of the River Mulkear, Co. Limerick. The determination of the salmon to get back into the river, despite the odds, highlights the resilience of this species. Salmon only need half a chance, and we are not giving them that. The River Mulkear forms part of the Lower River Shannon SAC. Both Otter and Atlantic salmon are Qualifying Interests of this Natura 2000 site. Native natural predators are not a key factor in the decline of salmon populations; predation is a natural and ecologically important process that salmon have evolved with.

Yet scenes like this are becoming increasingly common. While law-abiding anglers follow strict rules around fish welfare and river management, concerns continue to grow over fish being removed from waterways with little regard for conservation, ownership or the future of our rivers.

After decades of lawsuits spearheaded by me, the Hudson River is once again full of fish. But virtually all of the fish in the Hudson are contaminated with toxic PCBs. When polluters evade liability through legal loopholes, they get a hidden subsidy that encourages environmental crime, rather than deterring it. As president, I will protect the environment by forcing polluters — not the taxpayers — to pay for their cleanups. #Kennedy24

These dams have not been a problem for over a hundred years. There have been fish, power and water. The same plan was used for the Klamath River. The Klamath river dams were set for removal that very year. The farm ditch water was shut off due to flows. The fish are in decline. That is true. In the 90s, the international waters were moved closer to our coastlines. The fish can't get away. The giant international boats scoop the fish up. It's. It's incredible. During the same time we lost funding for our fish hatcheries. The PG dams are getting sued. That's why they're not profitable. We're not being told the whole truth. These people that are in charge will take these dams out no matter what we say. We have to fight. There's no other way. We have to have to stand up. That's right. We are the many, they are the few. After the floods in Nepal, large numbers of fish from different species are reportedly being seen in the Narayani River ( Known as Gandak in India) for the first time. In Khadda, Kushinagar, villagers have been catching fish and taking them home. At Hanumanganj Thokar, a group of youths caught a huge fish weighing around 50 kg. And yes, they used lathis (sticks) to catch it.

Wild salmon are returning in strong numbers after the removal of ocean-polluting Atlantic salmon farms in the Broughton Archipelago 👏 "The farms are gone out of this area, the farms are gone out of the Discovery Islands," says Chief Ho’miskanis Don Svanvik, ʼNa̱mǥis First Nation. "It's showing us over and over again that when you remove the farms, the fish do better." This year’s strong wild salmon return is restoring hope for First Nations in the region. It's time to transition all ocean-polluting Atlantic salmon farms out of BC waters to protect wild Pacific salmon for future generations.
