A delivery agent attempted to rescue 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in #GreaterNoida, who drowned after his car plunged into a drain amid dense fog. Moninder, the delivery agent, tied a rope around his waist and jumped into a water-filled basement in a desperate bid to save the victim,... Yuvraj. Recounting the harrowing night, Moninder said the accident occurred around midnight when Yuvraj’s car lost control in poor visibility, broke the wall of a deep drain and fell into the basement. He, however, heard cries of the victim's help. “For nearly one hour and forty-five minutes, the boy kept pleading, ‘Brother, save me somehow,’” Moninder said. He alleged that the police, fire brigade and SDRF personnel present at the spot refused to enter the water, citing extreme cold and the presence of iron rods inside. Moninder said he reached the scene around 1:45 am, by which time Yuvraj had drowned barely ten minutes earlier. “I saw SDRF personnel sitting on a ladder and told them to rescue the man. They said they wouldn't do. I asked them to come out and told them I would go instead,” he said. Moninder said he removed his clothes, tied a rope around his waist and swam nearly 50 metres inside the water, searching for the victim and the car for over 30 minutes, but could not locate either. He finally left the site around 5:30 am, when the car and Yuvraj had still not been recovered. “After that, what can I say? I went home, and I don't know anything more about it,” he said. Yuvraj, a resident of Tata Eureka Park Society in Sector-150, worked as a software engineer with Dunnhumby India in #Gurugram’s Sector-54. He was returning home from his office late Friday when his Grand Vitara car hit the drain wall due to fog and plunged into the water-filled basement near his residence. The car overturned and began floating because of the high water level. Police said Yuvraj managed to come out of the car and informed his father, Rajkumar Mehta, about the accident over the phone. His father alerted the police and dialled 112, before rushing to the spot. During the rescue attempt, Yuvraj was seen intermittently standing on top of the car, flashing his torch and shouting for help as darkness and dense fog hampered visibility. Despite the presence of police, fire brigade, SDRF and later NDRF teams, the rescue operation stretched over nearly four-and-a-half hours. Officials initially refrained from entering the water due to the cold conditions and the risk posed by under-construction columns inside the basement. Yuvraj eventually submerged along with the car around 1:45 am. An NDRF team from #Ghaziabad later retrieved Yuvraj from nearly 30-foot-deep water and rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident happened after the suspect secretly removed his left hand from his handcuffs. This car was cut off by this red car which entered a roundabout and was getting in the highway. When he honked, the red car slammed on its’ brakes and in his opinion, it made him have to jump the curb/median to avoid running into the the back of the red car. The red car speeds away and the driver who has his girlfriend and his dogs in the car decides to follow him. He calls the police and tells them he is following the red car. He has his license plate number by this time. A couple of times he speeds up next to the red car and yells that the police are coming. Is this what you would do? Who was the real road rager here? Many people said the driver with the dash cam is to blame or at the least just as much to blame. What do you think? Would you have followed the red car like this with your girlfriend and dogs in the car? Do you think both of them were road ragers? Or do you think the dash cam car was justified in following like he did?

A fitness trainer and strategist from Mahim and his wife were left traumatised after five men in an SUV, allegedly armed with baseball and hockey sticks, chased their vehicle, intercepted it and assaulted him before damaging the car's windows in a road-rage incident in Bandra on Saturday midnight, said police. Arjun Garewal, 39, was returning to his Mahim home with his wife, Bhakti, an HR director at a university, after dinner with his parents in Juhu when the incident occurred near Sahil Hotel on SV Road in Bandra (West). Bandra police have detained three accused - Anas K, 25, who works at a private firm, Bilal Shaikh, 30, the brother of a garment businessman and one other accused named Rajen. Police registered an FIR against them on Sunday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault and criminal intimidation. The three were later released after being served notices. Police said the incident began around 11.45pm on August 8 when an XUV700 allegedly came in front of Garewal's SUV and obstructed his way. "The road rage began after the accused first overtook Garewal and kept driving slowly in front, not allowing him to move ahead. When Garewal managed to get past, they got annoyed, chased and attacked him and damaged his car. They got angry after the victim overtook their vehicle. They kicked, punched and abused him verbally and damaged the front, rear and driver's-side windows of Garewal's car," a Bandra police officer said. Police said the assailants attacked Garewal with baseball and hockey sticks and damaged the windows of his vehicle while his wife was seated in the front. The group allegedly called a few more people who arrived on motorcycles and joined the verbal altercation and assault. Sub-inspector Mujaffar Sayyad and a police team reached the spot after Bhakti called the police helpline '100'. While several of the accused fled, police managed to detain two of them, an officer said. Garewal told to media that the incident began after the accused repeatedly overtook his vehicle and then deliberately drove slowly in front of him. "My wife was terrified after the incident and took leave from work on Monday," he said, adding, "When he tried to hit me, I stopped him with my hands after which the said person used a hockey stick to break the front, rear and driver's-side windows of my car. They then got into their car and drove away from the spot," said Garewal. Garewal noted down the SUV's registration number, following which police contacted the accused. Police said further probe is underway.
