People in Gaza are pleading for a drop of water. Every day, we receive dozens of urgent appeals from camps that have been cut off from drinking water, where displaced families are living in unbearable conditions. Families spend long hours searching for water, while young children are forced to carry heavy jerrycans and walk long distances. In many cases, the only water available is unsafe for drinking and intended only for irrigation. In Gaza, water is no longer just a daily necessity, it has become a struggle for survival. Parents are unable to provide a clean cup of water for their children, while the sick and elderly endure thirst inside tents under the intense heat. Providing water today is not a luxury, it is an urgent necessity that saves lives and preserves dignity. 75% of Indians are dehydrated, but the shocking part is that students need permission to drink water in school! Teachers often deny permission to children to drink waters, and students are sometimes also punished for drinking water! But one school has chosen to take a different route! They have created a “water bell” in their school, and at the end of every period, a bell rings reminding all students and teachers to drink water! This has helped the school students reduce the number of times they fall sick, and has helped improve energy levels of students! I highly recommend the government to spread this “Water bell movement” across all schools in India. In fact, even private schools and colleges can introduce this “water bell” concept. If crores of Indians start drinking more water, then we can beat headaches, kidney stone problems, and dizziness experienced by students. Water bell lagao, aur bachon ko pani peeni ki aadat lagao! A few survival tricks we all can use when out on a hike or camping in the wilderness. First this gentleman shows us how to filter water using a t-shirt to keep bugs and debris out of the water. Next he boiled the water. This is an important art before drinking any water especially from creeks and stagnant water. Finally he shows us how to sharpen an axe or knife using water and gritty dirt on a stone. It’s an amazing lesson. Thankfully, I have a small grinder for such a situation. But not everyone has one with them. I hope this helps someone in the future.
