During Russia's morning airstrikes on Ukrainian Danube ports, Romania's MoD's radars detected a Russian drone heading north toward Tulcea County. At 09:04, two Romanian F-16s were scrambled from Fetești to monitor the airspace. The pilots confirmed the target 9 km from Chilia Veche (still in Ukrainian territory), and at 09:13, Ukrainian air defense systems shot it down just 100 meters from the Romanian village. Video footage of the incident has surfaced, shared via sources including SNPP Politia Penitenciara on Facebook. Romanian teams remain ready to check for any debris near the border, with NATO allies informed—no airspace violation occurred on Romania's side this time.

NEW: 🇷🇴A major forest fire has broken out near Plauru, Tulcea County, close to the Romanian-Ukrainian border. The fire started at around 17:50 in a forest managed by Romsilva, initially affecting approximately 0.5 hectares. According to Romsilva, local residents said the fire may have been caused by the explosion of a drone. Forestry workers, volunteer firefighters and local residents are currently working to contain the blaze. The location is particularly notable because Tulcea County is the Romanian area most affected by drone incidents and RO-Alert warnings during Russian attacks on Ukraine. As of now, Romania’s Ministry of Defence has not confirmed that a drone entered Romanian airspace in connection with the incident. For now, the drone explanation comes from local accounts cited by Romsilva, so we should wait for further confirmation from Romanian authorities before drawing conclusions.

What appears to be a Russian Geran-2 or Gerbera drone struck a high-rise apartment building in Galati, Romania, around 13.5 km from the border with Ukraine. Prior to the attack, air raid alerts were issued in parts of the country due to the drone incursion into Romanian airspace. At least two people were injured and another 70 evacuated from the building, where a fire subsequently broke out. Romanian authorities say they are investigating the source of the drone, however at the same time of this attack, a large-scale Russian Geran-2 drone attack was underway on the Ukrainian port city of Reni, which lies directly opposite the border with Romania.

Even as Ramstein Flag continues at full scale, NATO Allied air forces remain ready to respond to real-world events at a moment's notice. Portuguese 🇵🇹 F-16s and French 🇫🇷 Rafale fighters were scrambled on separate occasions as part of NATO Air Policing missions over the Baltic region. Just before the weekend, Força Aérea Portuguesa F-16s conducted an interception to identify and monitor Russian 🇷🇺 aircraft operating near Baltic airspace, contributing to the security and surveillance of NATO's eastern flank. At the start of this week, Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace Rafales intercepted and identified an uncrewed aerial system (UAS) crossing into Latvian airspace from the east. Following identification and in accordance with established procedures, the drone was engaged and destroyed. The aircraft subsequently conducted an additional surveillance mission along the eastern border of the Baltic states. These missions highlight the readiness and vigilance of NATO Air Policing forces, demonstrating the Alliance's ability to train, deter and defend simultaneously. #NATO #BalticAirPolicing #RamsteinFlag

Two F-16AM Fighting Falcons with the Romanian Air Force were scrambled early Thursday to investigate an unidentified naval surface drone spotted near the Neptun Deep Project, a major European offshore natural gas field off the coast of Romania in the Black Sea. On approach, the drone - believed to be of Russian origin - was determined to be an active threat, with one of the F-16s using its M61A1 Vulcan Six-Barrel Gatling Gun to target and destroy the explosive-laden surface drone, roughly 80NM east of the Romanian Black Sea coastal city of Constanța. Romanian President Nicușor Dan blamed the incident on Russia, stating in a post online: “I strongly condemn the intensification of these types of irresponsible incidents on the part of the Russian Federation.” While European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described it as part of an “escalating campaign of threats” against the European Union.

BREAKING: A drone has been found in Romania, in a field outside the commune of Viișoara, Vaslui County, in eastern Romania. The drone is believed to be Russian, and is believed to contain an explosive payload. Romanian authorities have isolated the area and deployed police officers and an SRI explosives team to examine the damaged aircraft. The location is significant: Viișoara lies between Bârlad and Vaslui, roughly 70 km west of the border with Moldova and well inland from Romania’s usual drone-incident areas along the Danube, close to the Ukrainian border. This places the reported discovery considerably farther inside Romanian territory than the areas where drone debris has more commonly been found following Russian attacks on Ukraine. Authorities are investigating the type of drone and the circumstances in which it reached the area. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was part of Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine or was a stray drone that was not detected by Romanian military radar. The Romanian Interior authorities have notified the Iași Court of Appeal Prosecutor’s Office, which will oversee the investigation. No casualties have been reported.
