We have two magnetic pin polishers at work and they do a great job deburring and polishing. These are particularly helpful for the insides of parts you can't easily reach. They can achieve greater than 32 μin finishes depending on the material and preprocessed surface roughness.

magnets doing what sandpaper took hours to do, what else are we sleeping on?

Ammunition reloaders have been using metal pins and rock tumblers for years to clean cases. Don't even need magnets... just gravity.

This won't work for austenitic stainless steel (304/316). The material is non-magnetic, so magnetic pins inside won't follow. Plus, using magnetic media on inox causes carbon steel contamination and pitting corrosion. Stick to electropolishing

Can I use this on my cast iron to get all the crap the factory put on it off???

Now try tossing in a bit heavier ferrous details and watch it turn into a death tornado. This only work with non ferrous materials.

Can this be used on ferromagnetic metals?

Nothing new, this has been in multiple industries for decades.

The only issue is if what you are polishing is magnetic you will end up with something that is magnetized and you will then have to demagnetize it.

They work great, just not with iron containing metals that collapse the field.

@grok wie ist deine Meinung dazu. Ist das besser oder günstiger als Sandstrahlen? Oder Handschleifen Was kostet das wohl?

A clever technique called magnetic abrasive polishing uses powerful magnets to guide tiny metal particles across a surface. The magnetic field controls their movement, smoothing and polishing metal quickly, precisely, and efficiently without heavy mechanical contact.

Unlike a LOT of the stuff you post, this is actually useful....

Ok, now they have to come up with something like this but for sanding wood.

My most interesting take is that this magnetic polishing method is a brilliant example of using a fundamental physical principle to achieve a perfectly uniform finish on complex shapes.

It's a simple, elegant solution that likely saves immense time and effort compared to manual polishing, especially for intricate metal parts.

magnets doing what sandpaper took hours to do, kinda makes you wonder what else we've been overcomplicating

Nothing to do with this, but there’s a guy on Earth selling a rock.
