A Polk County Sheriff's Office K9 was shot and injured and is being treated. All deputies are safe. The armed suspect is deceased. Sheriff Judd provided details at the scene. Undercover deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Michigan during a sting operation involving an alleged scam to defraud an elderly woman out of $700,000. The sheriff’s department was originally alerted to the alleged scam when a coin shop owner reported that a 79-year-old woman had come in seeking to convert her life savings into gold coins. Following his arrest, the scammer was detained at the Kent County jail, with a $100,000 bond and an ICE detainer in place.

Deputies responded to a call of a woman screaming outside a home. When they knocked on the door, Hodges came outside holding a large knife. Deputies backed away and repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon. She refused and shouted “I’ll kill you” while continuing to advance toward them. Three deputies then opened fire, fatally striking Hodges. Sheriff John Mina said the deputies rendered aid until paramedics arrived. A Florida pastor has been accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy and exposing him to HIV. Pastor Timothy Chaneyfield of Winter Haven, Florida, was arrested after investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from Instagram about inappropriate activity between an adult and a child. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Chaneyfield was a pastor at St. James United American Free Will Baptist Church, a hospice chaplain, and a former employee of Polk County Schools. He allegedly used a dating app to contact the teen before moving their conversations to Instagram. Investigators report that Chaneyfield picked up the boy from his neighborhood three times and took him to his home in Eagle Lake, where the abuse occurred. According to Sheriff Judd: “He’s a dope-smoking pedophile preacher. He groomed a child online, drove to the child’s neighborhood, picked him up, and took him to his home, where he had sex with him.” The sheriff also said Chaneyfield is HIV-positive and did not inform the teen before having unprotected sex. Investigators additionally spoke with a 26-year-old man who reported having sexual contact with Chaneyfield and later learned he was HIV-positive. Chaneyfield faces multiple charges, including lewd battery on a minor, traveling to meet a minor, computer-related offenses, and failing to disclose his HIV status.

The suspect was caught when he "rode down a hill and into a ditch," causing his bike to get stuck. Deputies then took him into custody and charged the teen with fleeing and eluding law enforcement.

The bad guy who shot Ace was eliminated by his handler and two other deputies at the scene. Ace’s life was saved through the incredible work of a whole lot of people: his loyal partner, Deputy Natalie Oestreich, who quickly attended to his wounds & carried him to safety; the amazing staff and Dr. Aguayo at Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland who stopped his bleeding & stabilized him; the outstanding Tampa General Hospital @ Aeromed crew who got him quickly & safely to the amazing Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch, where Dr. Diaz performed the several-hour-long surgery to amputate Ace’s left front leg. Upon waking from the anesthesia, Ace attempted to walk out of there. He has not been deterred since. In fact he outran the camera attempting to film his release this afternoon!
