Of course Turkey wants to free thousands of turkish ISIS terrorists in Al-Hol. They're better fighters than their other proxies like SNA and need them to both fight Kurds but also to keep Al-Jolani in check. Right now the war between SNA and SDF is benefiting Jolani

Honoring the Memory of Steven Sotloff, of Blessed Memory Today, we remember Steven Sotloff, a courageous Jewish journalist whose life was tragically taken by ISIS a decade ago. His bravery and dedication to truth continue to inspire us. The greatest tribute we can offer is to ensure that terrorist groups like ISIS, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and their ilk are eradicated. Our mission is clear: to make this world safer for all—except those who seek to destroy it through terror. Who stands with us in this fight?

On the thousands of ISIS militants held in prisons in NE Syria: Remember that the US partnering with the YPG (later SDF) started in a real way during the battle for Kobani, at which point the Americans could no longer hide that Turkey was supporting ISIS (though they still did deny it). Turkey wasn't a reliable partner in fighting ISIS, which shouldn't be something that has to be pointed out; the foreign jihadis landed at Turkish airports and freely crossed the Turkish border. Jihadis could pass back and forth as needed for supplies, weapons, medical treatment...ISIS even launched an attack on the Kobani border gate from inside Turkey. But America is not and has not been earnestly invested in fighting ISIS since the defeat of its caliphate. The 7 years of ISIS whack-a-mole since gave the US an excuse to maintain a presence in Syria. That pretense is no longer necessary. It might become necessary again, and there will be plenty of ISIS flourishing if and when that time comes. So if it seems like the very serious matter of dangerous terrorists being unleashed on the region is being somewhat ignored by the Western powers responsible for engineering the Syria mess, that's because it is. But when you have a government comprised of a former Al-Qaeda affiliate with a healthy dose of former ISIS and extremist foreign militants in the mix, what difference does 10kish freed ISIS prisoners make? And that’s not accounting for the many boys and adolescents who have become men in the mini-caliphate of the al-Hol camp, yet another time bomb the Americans hoisted on the SDF.

This is perhaps one of the most candid acknowledgments from a KDP official regarding the depth of their ties with Turkey: Hoshyar Zebari states that the KDP is not only close to Turkey but saying, “We don’t hide anything from each other.” He goes on to praise Turkey’s treatment of civilians, claiming that it has shown more mercy and kindness than the PKK. When challenged by the reporter—who references conversations with local civilians—Zebari responds, “I know these locals better. Turkey isn’t preventing them from going about their daily lives or mistreating them”. Zebari also acknowledges direct intelligence cooperation, noting that the KDP knows the terrain better than the Turks. He adds that individuals arrested in the area are typically those collaborating with the PKK. When the report displays a map showing Turkish military bases scattered across the region, Zebari explains that their presence dates back to 1992, citing the threat posed by the PKK. He says that the KDP is fully aware of the extent of Turkey’s deployment, adding that he knows the location of Turkish posts “like the palm of my hand.” When pressed further about the scale of Turkey’s military footprint, Zebari responds bluntly: “You know what? We are fine with that.” The report states that Turkey currently maintains 136 bases and outposts across the KDP-controlled areas of the Kurdistan Region of which 121 of these—around 89%—have been established since 2018. Interestingly, the documentary also features PUK leader Bafel Talabani, who argues that Turkey uses the war against the PKK as a pretext for its military presence. He claims that Turkish forces have a far great presence than U.S. troops in the region, and that the Turkish deployment primarily serves to protect the KDP. Talabani also claims that cooperation between Turkey and the KDP goes beyond military coordination, encompassing intelligence-sharing as well.
