A Maldivian gov scholarship student at University of Melbourne (world top 15) has been sanctioned due to unpaid tuition fees and is now unable to progress to the next semester. The university tried to contact MOHE but, after receiving no response, resorted to emailing the student directly. The terms of the scholarship agreement clearly states that all matters related to tuition fees are to be handled solely between the university and the ministry, without involving the student. But they had to email the student anyway cause MOHE was not responding. The deadline for the tuition payment passed 2 months ago. As a result, the student’s classmates and batch are advancing to the next semester, while the student remains in limbo. The student then emailed MOHE but no satisfactory response. Then when the student’s family approached MOHE for clarification, they began shifting blame, the budget section pointed fingers at the scholarship section and vice versa. Prior to the sanction, the university had also reached out directly to senior officials, including the Head of Department, Ibrahim Ali and Zaufishana, but received no response. So if your are in one of these states you’re at risk Illinois California Pennsylvania Georgia Ohio Alabama Missouri Some of these states have programs so extensive that nearly a quarter of all school districts use tactics like this
