A funny difference between US and UK

Was in Florida 2003 on a tour the guide pointed out a house that was hundred years old, old Yorkshire man behind me piped up “I’ve got a bloody shed older than that”

My local pub appeared as a coaching Inn in the The Domesday Book, the UK's first census in 1086. It has recently changed hands and thankfully remained a pub. It was rumoured Tesco Express were interested!

My village was first settled in the 1st century AD.

Spoons have been pivotal in restoring beautiful old buildings. Annoyingly, its harder to get mortgages on houses (especially in Cornwall) that are old, that have stood strong for hundreds of years, and will still be there on a 100 years, but you can get a mortgage no problem on a shitty new build house thats been made of toothpicks and plasterboard.

I visited this stone circle in a field in Somerset this week, it’s 4500 years old! To get to it, you have to walk through a field of cows, and it cost £1 in an honesty box to wander round it and feel the Mesolithic vibrations!

Pass this going to the supermarket each week, it’s give or take 1000 years old, now run by the National Trust. The former owners moved nearby to ‘newer’ place they already had, built c.1400.

The castle I got 5 miles down the road was built in the 13 century .. its a beauty tho . Very lucky

In my local ‘spoons there is a trapdoor used in Tudor times (like 500 years ago) by husbands to escape their wives when they came looking for them. The trapdoor leads to a cellar to an another pub over the road. That might sound fanciful but it’s true 😂

Have you visited Hamilton Hall at Liverpool Street? It was the ballroom of the Great Eastern hotel. I believe it’s about 150 years old. It’s now a Wetherspoons.

The house I grew up in was a converted barn only a few years younger than the USA. The church and churchyard next door were getting on for 1k years old. Recently this lot was found buried in a field I must have crossed hundreds of times when younger. Melsonby Hoard - Wikipedia

The village I live in has an ancient roman Road and a 900+ year old church that's still in use today and we are in the doomsday book and we are like meh
