Would like to add some context. This project is inspired by a fellow artist / friend of mine 韩博 Han Bo's works. He does much space filling with tiny trencadis-like grids in his paintings. I went to his solo exhibition at Nancy's Gallery in Shanghai, and started a "reverse-engineering" process afterwards. Go check out his works if you happen to be in the area.
