When I conduct therapy sessions for men—husbands and fathers who don’t know the proper way to talk to their kids—or when I see a friend who is clearly sad, but the only thing people do is tease or joke with him… for many men, an emotional check-in is just teasing. It’s like, if you’re still okay with the teasing, that means you’re still okay. But I saw that both of you support each other on a deeper level than that. If one of you feels lonely, I believe you’re able to tell each other directly. Being a man should include the ability to do this. It should go beyond just teasing or silently doing activities together. If we can move past that point, we reach the next step—being men who can truly support each other, not just “be men.” I want to praise you for this, because I secretly watched you and saw that you genuinely care about each other. 👩🏻 You’re truly close friends.
