A Jamaican lawmaker has rightfully questioned when Africans and African nations who sold slaves to Europeans will be held accountable for their role in the slave trade and pay reparations as well⁉️🤔

He seems to suffer from the same psychological condition as descendents of slaves in America. Unable to go after the slave masters, so they lash out! Jamaica is still under the British commonwealth, he’s got the next 10 yrs to beg the crown before he’s gone.

He looks like he was finally sick and tired of the massive denial amongst politicians, academics, activists and the very African nations themselves who are trying to retcon their role and present themselves as the ultimate victims.

What African nations? They’ve been partitioned and rebranded and in some cases completely annihilated! He needs to go study African history to understand how ludicrous that argument is! Slavery was practiced across the continent but why do the descendants of enslaved people assume that the continent itself was not scarred from the effects of slavery. There are records of numerous African rulers calling for an end to the trade blighting their people. The argument for accountability and reparations is complex and won’t be resolved by listening to agents of distraction, deception and deliberate chaos!

Dead folks paying reparations to other dead folks. Non-sensical. If you are talking about current slaves... that's a different story.

@KO6o0n Why are black diaspora mad at Africans? You ultimately got to live in better countries/conditions. Plus, your ancestors were the ones who experienced 99% of the hardships.

Who did the slaves work for? Reparations are for crime of slavery not the trade.

What this coon is actually saying is "Let's not touch the white masters but look over there, at those Africans". Honestly the lowest iq black people are those in the Wests Indies, The USA and South Africa. Let's all guess what they have in common!

How did Africa benefit from the slave trade? Also, there are tribes who participated, but most most objected it and even wrote letters for its abolished

I've been saying this for decades! I refuse to only hold Europeans responsible for slavery. I hold West African nations equally responsible. I believe that the US and Britain should force West African nations to pay reparations to Black Americana and Caribbean & Latin blacks.

Apparently, some Americans and Caribbeans think Africans were all having tea with the white man. There are entire archives documenting the slave trade: the African traders themselves being enslaved by Europeans they did business with.

I consider black diasporans my people before Africans. But I take it as it comes regardless.

African kingdoms did participate in the slave trade But reparations are more complicated when responsibility is spread across African rulers, european traders, european demand, ships, colonial powers and plantation economies that drove the trade on a massive scale.

So which people do you want to hold because some sellers were also on that boat too so which country do you want to hold cause there was no country then now which tribe do you want to hold cause both the sellers and the victims were from same tribe

It’s like how the Japanese deny the Nanking massacre despite all the evidence to support it, the Chinese are rightfully pissed off about that. West Africans do the same to us.

The colonised must pay reparations to the other colonised for the actions of the coloniser? What stupid logic is that?

All the kings and kingdoms that captured and sold slaves no longer have control over their own territories, they just ceremonial now. The countries that came out of d colonization are dirt poor and Jamaica is doing better than most of them.

Africa will pay more than reparations to all the Carribbean nations when we free ourselves from European imperialism and control our resources... We will literally share our resources with you people on our honour ✌️

Those kingdoms don’t exist anymore, as the European powers, after using them against them, they simply took over all of them, the kings and monarchs are no longer a reality, so who are you going to question, when every country in Africa is new and less than 100 years old???

THE MYTH THAT AFRICANS ‘SOLD THEIR PEOPLE’ Europeans have attempted to distance themselves from - and avoid accountability for - their atrocities during the centuries-long slave trade by propelling narratives that it was Africans who sold them slaves. On this version, Africans share the blame for the horrors faced by Black people. During his opening remarks on African identity and the decolonisation of education in Africa and the Caribbean at the University of West Indies in Jamaica, at the PJ Patterson Institute for Africa Caribbean Advocacy, vice chancellor Hilary Beckles spoke about the importance of reclaiming our narratives. As Beckles puts it, when history is told from the gunman's perspective, you inevitably get a distorted picture. Beckles dispels the myth that Africans willingly sold their fellow Africans into slavery. While he notes that there were certainly corrupt individuals back then, just as there are now, they were a minority. In Nazi Germany, for example, there were Jewish people who collaborated with the regime, yet no one blames them for the Holocaust. So why is this the line of argument used when it comes to slavery? Most Africans who took part in the slave trade did so for survival and did not have much of a choice. When European narratives paint our ancestors as 'business partners,' it is misleading - a business partner is free to not partake in a business venture without consequences, whereas Africans were not. Moreover, Europeans exacerbated divisions amongst our people, spurring ethnic conflict and wars amongst Africans. It was often ‘prisoners of war’ who were bought by Europeans from Africans. The European narrative has been used to further divide Black people across the world, thus continuing the divide-and-conquer tactics that have ensured African disunity and exploitation for centuries.
