The deposit belongs to the tenant..it is only held as an assurance and protection against tenant caused damages, unpaid rents and utilities. If no such have occurred, it should be returned to the tenant when they move.

These agents and Landlords are taking people for granted. For such an issue, one can report it at the rent tribunal or file it as a civil case at the small claims court. When people remain silent, these people continue to take advantage and leave people to self-loathing.

This is now illegal in Kenya and you can seek legal redress.

It's time we need to sit down and ask ourselves. Is there a law sorrounding this deposit thing? Why would someone sit on my deposit for ten years and even give me back the same amount? Do I deserve some interest on it............

Why r u renting a house for 4 months. Even if u rent for 1 day damages will be taken out of ur deposit never expect 100% refund, & this usually given after 2 weeks to allow for repairs. Tenants r unreasonable educate urself on the meaning of deposit. I wonder if she gave notice?

Did she have a contract and did she follow the terms and conditions..House repainting and other repairs
