Thanks for this. Never even occurred to me that the Sears catalog would have been a game-changer for Black people who no longer had to try to buy from racist shop owners.

So that’s why my grandpa would always buy my school shoes from Sears😮

My family were sharecroppers in Mississippi. They ordered from the Sears & Roebuck catalog and paid COD at the post office.

My grandmother loved shopping at Sears. When we went to Rolling Oaks mall she made sure to stop there. Bought an electric lawn mower and school clothes amongst other things but that’s all I seen when I was with her. Sears was one of the first stores to close in our ghost mall.

Everything Black Americans have endured, overcome, and contributed to this country MUST be taught truthfully in our schools—Black history is American history.
